Bagio

I made it to Bagio yesterday. It’s maybe 180 miles from Manila. the first 120 miles took 2 hours and the remaining 60 took 3.5! The road is paved but never straight for more than 200 yards as it snakes up the mountain. The bus was great with a toilet, stewardess and snacks all for $18.

Bagio hasn’t impressed me so far. It’s loud and reeks of diesel fumes  My hotel, the Burnham is 4-D; Dreary, dark, dismal and dilapidated! The staff is nice though. I’m in a basement room which is quiet at least but for some reason, the water was off after 8pm. The good thing was that meant I was able to use my towels as a extra blanket. Bagio is at 4800 ft so it’s on the cooler side,Philipines 2012 5 001 (Small)

I’m going to try to get to a small village north of here, Kabayan. There is no scheduled bus service so you just show up at the terminal and wait until there are enough people for a trip?  It’s maybe 30 miles and 4 hours away If that doesn’t work, I’m going to bail out and return to Manila to look for some sun and beach time.

No pictures this time as the Wi-Fi loads at 5kbs/sec, about 50 times slower than most places Philipines 2012 5 002 (Small)

A miracle, the Wi-Fi is faster nowPhilipines 2012 5 003 (Small) Philipines 2012 5 004 (Small)
